Which antenna is more suitable for energy harvesting system using RF signals (Wi-fi, 3G/4G,…)? How much Antenna gain is needed? Any suggestions
UWB antennas, which cover all the spectrum of Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G are the better option............
Also needs to be low directivity, and so low gain, so that it is omnidirectional - unless you know which direction your power is coming from, then you can use high directivity, high gain, and point it in the right direction.
Using Patch Antenna is generally better if your planning to target discrete bands.
If you want wideband application covering all the bands disc antenna is a good option.
recently meta surfaces are used to harvest microwave energy and several researches have been published in journals. Although this structures are not wide band but, they have very good harvesting efficiency because of their good effective area. Their advantages in comparison with microstrip antenna array is shown. I recommend you have a look them.

any kind of antenna as this device will become only a medium to capture input signal. most important part is the energy harvester component that able to match with the antenna. the gain from the antenna is estimated more than 5dBi is needed for that purpose.
