I know that from journals with open peer review policy (in which you can see the reviewer name) like BMC journals. In one time of several occasions, the reviewers i suggested were actually chosen.

There are rules for this suggestion, so that an editor may consider it: 1. Expert in the field with many relevant publications, 2. No common publications between him and any of the authors for the past 5 years and 3. Completeness of his entered data. However, as i said above, there is no guarantee they will be chosen. I just do it as an essential step of the submission process.

By you providing a choice of possible reviewers, the Editor does not have to waste time trying to find a reviewer for a new area. Some Editors go a step further and ask for any reviewers they must NOT use (in case of known, unjustified antagonism).

Peer review is the evaluation of work by one or more people of similar competence to the producers of the work .

So,When We Want to suggested authors by peer reviewer We Should be have criteria for competence People to the producers of the work .

Actually by doing so the task of editor become easy but the probability of acceptance of ones paper increases almost to 100 percent.

Sometimes yes. However they are not obliged to use those reviewers when they have reviewers that are specialized in the technical area in question

Yes, many journal do this perhaps due to scarcity of good reviewers.

Peer review is important not only for the journal, but mostly for the novice authors also.

My support is for double blind peer review journals.

Peer review means that a board of scholarly reviewers in the subject area of the journal, review materials they publish for quality of research and adherence to editorial standards of the journal, before articles are accepted for publication.

But, I prefered double blind peer review journals

About five years ago I have submitted a manuscript to international journal for publication. The editorial board asked me to submit the names of three referees with their designation and electronic address for the review of the manuscript. It was a new experience for me as it never happened before. I replied the editorial board that you are free to get my manuscript reviewed by reviewers of your choice across the globe. But in counter reply they said that submission of the names of three referees is mandatory. Finally I have withdrawn the submitted manuscript on this issue. I think a journal which is even dependent on the authors for the names of referees/reviewers is useless and has no right to publish a paper.

Suggestion of about 3-5 potential reviewers is a requirement for most journal submission. This process is probably called for owing to scarcity of reviewers especially in some newly established fields of study. It makes the editorial work in assigning the manuscript to reviewers more easy. Some journals often use members of their editorial team with or without the suggested reviewer for the peer review, some use only the suggested reviewers for the review process while others interchanged the suggested reviewers by different authors for the review of manuscripts in the same fields. Also, some journals only use the suggested reviewers if any of the assigned reviewers is busy and unable to complete the review process as and when due.

In most of the journals it is mandatory. But the reviewers which we are suggested did not receive any communication from that journals.

I think that for a reputable journal, your suggestions go into a database for the future, but should NOT be used for your manuscript.

Many journal are asking as because they are not having the list of expertise in their panel for a particular topic.In this way publishing houses create a database for future use.

As a matter of policy,research articles must not be allocated to the peer reviewer suggested by authors.

Potential reviewers are busy and are not compensated so they are in short supply. Journals appreciate learning about new potential reviewers, individuals the journal may or may not use for your paper but who may be available for other papers on a similar subject. Journals also ask for reviewers you want to rule out (competitors, enemies etc), which is helpful to you.

Journals will not use suggested reviewers with whom you have previously published or who work at the same university.

When suggesting reviewers, suggest people "at arm's length" from you, preferably someone you have cited in your paper - that automatically means they know a lot about the topic and will probably be interested in reviewing the paper.

Consider suggesting reviewers on the journal's editorial board if they are experts in your topic. They are more likely than others to accept the invitation.
