If you are referring to the allegedly new SARS-CoV-2 variant, the answer is it depends.
For RT-qPCR-based tests, if those novel mutations on that variant caused significant changes on the sequences usually used for detection (such as those representing ORF1ab, and coding for the nucleoprotein), then that would most likely require modifications of the primers used.
For immunologic tests, if the novel mutations on that variant caused significant epitope changes, then it would likely render current kits less effective for the purposes of detection.
