WHO data suggests that the percentage of Low Birth Weight babies in India has remained unchanged at 30% from the year 1984 to 2007 in spite of the fact India progressed a lot during this period. One reason for LBW which strongly emerges is the genetic make-up of the people with adaptations to nutritional stresses over thousands of years. If so, it may take a few generations to narrow down the backlog. Diverse opinions would be welcome.
