Yes, but. It depends a little on seasonality in the natural range for the trees being used. At high latitudes there are more distinct differences in morphology within a growth 'ring'. There are differences in frequency and diameter of vessels. Some species (e.g. Eucalypts) are termed "semi-ring porous" where they occur in areas of distinct seasonality. Some tropical species are erratic in their ring structure - reflecting erratic episodic growth.
