Surface oxidation of brass in methanol environment is observed . Is it zinc oxide or copper (cuprous) oxide or copper-meth-oxide or zinc- meth- oxide? Please help me in understanding of brass corrosion in (dilute) methanol environment of 1M to 10M concentartion.

The anodic oxidation of copper and zinc metals in anhydrous alcohols proceeds with the formation of relatively stable surface oxides compounds. At low over-voltage, the surface of the anodic product acts as an inhibitor membrane and plays a similar role to the hydroxide layer in the pre-passive range in aqueous solutions.
