I built a simply supported I-beam in Abaqus and carried out simple static analysis.

Vertical displacement and slopes value are nearly identical between Abaqus and theory results.

But the horizontal displacement of the roller is quite large when compared to theoretical results.

(I adopted that the horizontal displacement of the simply supported beam is approximately equal to half of integral from 0 to L of the square of the first derivative of vertical deflection.)

All the vertical deflection, slope and horizontal displacements values are extracted from NA of beam.

The only problem I can consider is that -

In my theory, the hinge of the beam won't show horizontal displacement when load is applied.

But in abaqus, the NA shows movement horizontally when I put my boundary condition at the bottom flange of I-beam.

So, if anyone has any idea, please let me know.

Looking forward to seeing the recommendations

Thank you!
