I am critiquing a paper that has done a case study of 5 systems (4 of them in java) and their domains are: embedded systems (2 of them), IDE (Netbeans), and whatever JRefractory is, some sort of code editing utility. I was wondering if these are representative of the most common use cases for java programs, and if not, if I could find proof for it and link a source. It would be an issue since the generalizability of the findings would be weaker. I always felt like java was the most often used for simple applications and games, as well as commercial suites for institutions like banks and insurance companies and a back-end to web apps, but I might be wrong. I don't know exactly how to research something that is seemingly so simple, and whatever search terms I use give me very cluttered and useless search results.

I'm very new at researching and writing papers so I hope this isn't a bad question
