speed reading is a kind of cognitive processing that starts from identification of calligraphic code on the page to semantic processing in the brain ,you need basically to be familiar with reading cognitive processing then to optimize the reading through speed.

American military reading training resources are very useful,and some good read books by institutes for speed reading in Uk.

Thank you for your reply. Speed reading isn't really my focus - I'm interested in silent reading rates of competent readers of different languages and orthographies. Of course the rate changes with the kind of texts being read, and the purposes for which they are read. However, there is general agreement that in order to cope adequately with reading loads, students at English medium universities need to be able to read at about 300 wpm, and this rate is considered by many to reflect competent reading in English. Although different word lengths and different orthographies across languages make comparisons complicated, I' am interested to know if research has yielded measures of competent reading speeds in different languages. I used eye tracking in my study of reading in isiZulu, but have found very little research on reading in other languages. However, maybe your papers will help - I will look for them.
