One is the iSubpathwayMiner (http://210.46.85.180:8080/SubpathwayGM/) Metastatic Prostate Cancer Dataset from Harbin Medical University in China, originally used by investigators at the University of Michigan1 and used again by a related team2. This gene set contains 1,773 differentially-expressed genes associated with metastatic prostate cancer based on the gene expression profile, while the metabolite set contains 53 differential metabolites associated with metastatic prostate cancer. It downloadable in zip form from:

cBioPortal at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center has a great database which allows you to examine mRNA expression and mutations in a variety of cancers, but it was set up for prostate cancer originally.  You can also enter in several genes of interest and see how they correlate.

I have had a look at the information about the databases available and they are more related to gene analysis. I am looking for data related to readings from prostate cancer tests like PSA, Gleason, urinary symptoms, ethnicity, age, family history. Any more suggestions for places to look? 

The SEOM, ESMO, ASCO and NCCN guidelines are very good summaries. The SEOM, -Spanish Society for Medical Oncology- toghether with the ICO, Catalan Institute of Oncology, e-oncologia, and the Girona University have a module based, on-line crash course in Medical Oncology, 750 hrs of credits, that contains a highly detailed Prostate Cancer Module, with very good information about individualized care according to subtle differences in tumor stage and biology.

Classic texts, as 'de Vita Principles and Practice of Oncology' do contain lots of good info. Urology societies all over the world also issue their own guidelines on Prostate cancer management. Vollmer RT has addressed many important issues in Prostate Ca. It depends on the level of complexity and how deep you want going in the subject, i.e, on your needs, my level is a bit above a last years' resident. . Hope it's useful. Regards.

Dear Jose Thanks for your reply. I am looking for actual datasets with patient data rather than guidelines. I will statistically analyse the data to determine factors most likely to increase someone's risk of getting prostate cancer. Thanks for the information in your reply I will look at the guidelines. Thank you so very much for putting together all these resources. They are extremely useful and I am sure others will find them useful too. At the moment I am looking at diagnosis using patient profile information, urinary symptoms, tests from results, rather than gene data. However, what you provided is very useful since it is likely that we could move onto gene analysis for prostate cancer in the near future. Thanks once again.

Glad to help. Let me make some further suggestions more tailored toward patient PC registries (although some of the datasets I noted may embed such data):

An AUA Prostate Cancer Registry is being developed by the American Urological Association (described briefly at: http://www.auanet.org/publications/hpbrief/view.cfm?i=2096&a=4338), and although still in progress, the AUA Registry Advisory Workgroup has indicated a timeline where it expects a pilot form by the "Phase II" stage, which is this month, July 2014, so you might contact the AUA to check progress, and access requirements.

In addition, the Knight Cancer Institute of OSHU has a Personalized Cancer Medicine Registry (PCMR) [http://www.ohsu.edu/xd/health/services/cancer/getting-treatment/services/registries.cfm] which besides the standard genomic/molecular data also includes patient clinicopathologic and staging information. You can contact them at [email protected]

(503 346-0354) or [email protected] (503 494-6367) to determine whether they have a distinct PC-specific Registry, and its accessibility.

There is also the Cooper Prostate Cancer Registry, a joint project of Copper University Health Care and MD Anderson, and originally developed and administered in collaboration with the Coriell Institute for Medical Research (Camden, NJ). I believe Dr. Tamara LaCouture, a radonc at Copper is involved with the project (or may direct you), so you might contact her to learn more ((856) 797-1507) or her assistant Marge Grasso at: [email protected]).

Also, the CDC coordinates a National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR) [see: http://www.cdc.gov/cancer/npcr/value/registries.htm#2) and you may want to contact them (800-232-4636, and ask to be directed to their NPCR coordinator).

Another excellent source is NAACCR, the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (http://www.naaccr.org/), which aggregates and publishes data from central cancer registries, which you might contact to see what's available.

More specialized but may still be useful is the Mayo Clinic Radical Prostatectomy Registry (http://www.mayoclinic.org/medical-professionals/clinical-updates/general-medical/radical-prostatectomy-registry-mayo-clinic).

And UCSF maintains CaPSURE (https://urology.ucsf.edu/research/cancer/capsure), an observational database of over 7000 prostate cancer patients with comprehensive patient staging and pathological data, as well as the Urologic Oncology Database (UODB) for prostate, renal, and bladder studies, so it may be worthwhile to contact them re access opportunities (contact info given at link).

Finally, a dozen or more human clinical studies have used the large population-based Swedish National Prostate Cancer Registry (NPCR) [see: http://snd.gu.se/en/catalogue/study/EXT0014, and the in-detail description at: http://www.cancercentrum.se/Global/Diagnoser/prostatacancer/rapporter/prostataca_rapport_04_08.pdf].
