Thank you fpr the answer but concerning the knowledge I think it is the most important but unfortunately the situation in the meantime is different as you Know hoping that all is okey.
The 4 components will stay, but the mix will vary with time and geographically.
All the functions of higher education (teaching research and community service) are coming together, but I think most of times –now days- are driven by the MARKET.

I respect your experience and your vision, Dr. Ahed. I agree with you: the "question should receive more attention on the level of policy making process in designing higher education programs." And the topic is very "sensitive." I'm hoping it would receive the attention it deserves!

Changes in higher education have been rapid. In some how we talk about the MARKETISATION of universities (Marketisation of education). Business criteria, not education or the public good, drive what marketised universities do. Economic criteria get precedence over what’s good in human terms.
A business mind-set is now in charge in universities, forcing institutions to reassess the way they are managed and promoted to ensure maximum efficiency, sales and profits. Students view the opportunity to gain a degree as a right, and a service which they have paid for, demanding a greater level of accountability, and cost-effective approaches.
