If there is systematic review and meta-analysis published 5 years ago by specific authors, and i found that there are more recent studies that can be included in this review, Is it considered updated systematic review if I started my own methodology from A to Z, with more outcomes and decent methodology?
An interesting question indeed!
For Cochrane, every 2-year basis we need to update a systematic review and meta-analysis (The same group of authors do this). However, for non-cochrane, that's debatable. Possibly that would depend on number of new studies available after the last systematic review was published rather than how many years passed since the last one published. If you are performing the systematic review and meta-analysis from your own methodology assessing new outcomes, I feel that would be another new one, not the update. But if after you publish your own systematic review and then after a while you come across new studies, then you can include those new studies to your old published protocol to come up with an updated systematic review and meta-analysis.
