To make my question clear, let me give a specific example for discussion. UiO-66-NH2 is synthesized with 2-NH2-BDC as organic linker. In comparison, UiO-66 can be synthesized with BDC as organic linker, and then modified with N-containing reagents (such as ethylenediamine), I wonder what's the difference between UiO-66-NH2 and NH2-modified UiO-66 with respect to their capacity in adsorbing and anchoring metal nanoparticles (MNPs)? In my opinion, the percent of NH2 in PSM is lower than the one present originally in the linker. In some cases, the trigger to assembly with functionalized ligand is precluded by the pendant group so it is feasible to do the PSM later.
