I have sent an article in a scopus indexed journal 2 months back and the status in the online submission system shows review overdue?What does that mean?When can I mail the editor to know about the progress of the journal ?

I want to be honest...I almost never do this--unless there is a special issue, etc. that I would like to send the study to ASAP. My experience (and it could only be that!) is that there is a high correlation between "nudging the editor" and "rejected manuscripts."

I think that the question about the evaluation of any paper is preferred after two months of its submission
If I have not heard back after 90 days I send a polite, respectful inquiry to the editor.
It depends on many things of which time line of journal is one, second is quality of journal itself. One of my papers is in review process since march 2019 and editors does not bother to answer my mails. Author can send a mail when time extends beyond timelines and seek answer from the editors.
"Review overdue" probably means that reviewers are late with their respinse. There is no sense writing to the editor with suxh a status.
