In general, a journal with a high impact factor is difficult to accept. The reason for this is because it is subject to rigorous review by the world's top reviewers in specialized fields. Therefore, it is true that when you apply for an academic position, it is often that you are judged to be a person who already has a lot of specialized training required as a researcher. However, in my experience, I think that factors other than capabilities on documents are quite large to obtain a good academic job. In other words, we call it a luck or a miracle of red thread.
It is dependent upon the institution or the University which request the job. Of course, you should mention all your published and submitted works in your personal CV. Where, the impact factor maybe become a point of differentiation between two persons applying for the same job.
Its your first hand information about your scientific standing...or alternatively you have nothing to prove your scientific standing on the subject...especially when you are attempting at any job opportunity...
The impact factor (IF) is another index that helps bring “some” order in the flood of scientific papers. I personally think that having high impact factor means a priory that the journal is red and cited and that the texts published probably have scientific importance. Just probably. If you are looking for a job, this is a quick reference that busy recruiting staff will use. Sincerely if I were to recruit somebody, I would look into the papers and ignore the IF. BUT, if I would recruit 20 people per day, I would certainly use the IF. Life is hard. There are 3 problems. The first two are linked. One is your chief, who would like some high numerical measure of your work, and this is the IF. The second is the fact that so often the administrative directors of the scientific institutions are often not scientists, and they will understand only the numbers and not the contents. And the last is that often to distinguish a paper that is ingenious and the paper that is pure stupidity may be hard. So we often go easy way and look IF. The solution is that we should try always to have pleasure when reading papers, judging papers, writing papers, or constructing our research.
Yeah, Its a harsh reality. Though it depends on country to country and university to university. This bloody system of publication should be stopped in order to guarantee true/original research, and to reduce mental pressure on PhD students. According to new research, 2 out of 3 PhD students suffer mental problems
Generally , I think the publications don' have a direct impact on people, but high quality researches could have, especially in medicine and engineering....etc. , and I hope will improve our life with new and important discoveries.
For those against the publications and think it has no impact on the personal qualifications, in your opinion what will be the criteria for selecting the qualified person? If all have no publications so who will be selected and who not? Why we think publication is a challenge or it is impossible. It is the real evidence of the researcher output. So it a fear indicator.
In academic job, does impact factors of journals matter?
Yes, Dr. Ahmad - The impact factors matter, like good academic record etc. Publication in high impact factor journals - It is presumed (at least at the first instance) that you have carried out high quality research, and fetch more weightage in the CV part.
But high quality work is also found in many journals with comparatively low impact factors.
I think ultimately the level of understanding (on the subject) matters more during the interview/discussion.
There is no relationship between publication in high impact factor journals and getting job ,but this issue took in consideration when a university teacher need to improve his scientific degree (Lecturer,Assist prof. and prof.).

When we applying for job especially in academic we must have a specialization in the subject matter & while applying for job our application or data must speak for itself .
In case of academic qualification for our knowledge which nature of articles in the magazine which we read out & if in case if we desire to express our views we may certainly express the same in the magazine concern , It is no matter whether edit of magazine accepts it or otherwise we should not either to take the same in our mind or our thinking process .
Besides with our experience , we are publishing certain articles of our knowledge in the magazine it also helps us lots in our career .
There are a group of factors that are important in getting hired to a university position. First, it depend what the university is looking for: an Administrator, a Teacher, a Researcher. Second, in only the third case "A Researcher" will IF definitely matter. However, it may also be the case that the aspiring Researcher may have to compete with other Researchers with equally high IF, and then the competition is on with the University getting the better part of any deal made.
Anyone can't grantee high impact factor as quality research. One of my friend's paper rejected from 0.4 IF, and accepted in 5.2 IF (in a paid journal). DO we need such high quality research. People have made groups and review papers from selected reviewers........ This bloody game should be stopped
