I don't recommend alloxan as it is quite toxic. Instead, you should try Streptozotocin (STZ). 50 mg/Kg STZ injection daily for 5 days should produce diabetes within 2-4 weeks in adult rats. Actually more common is the single dose STZ in 2-day old pups.

Rats were induced diabetes by the administration of simple intraperitoneal dose of alloxan monohydrate (150 mg/kg) (Nagappa et al., 2003).
