I am reading some papers about antenna. I'm puzzled by the application of strips attached to antennas. Sometimes they can generate resonances in the frequency band, but sometimes they can be used as band-rejection. I think the two kinds of application are opposite. Why does one structure have two oposite effects on the frequecy band? What does it depend on? Could anyone tell me why?
Strip creates reactive components e.g. L & C. The function is, at resonance it offers low impedance and off resonance it offers high impedance. Depending upon, series or shunt configuration, it will act as a band pass or band reject. Hope this will clear your doubt

Or how can I get a simple equivalent circuit of the antenna with strips? Where can I find the specific theory to explain that? I think I need to read more books. And taking the example in the attachment, there are two antennas from two papers and their s11 and VSWR curves. Obviously, the strips on the first antenna can generate resonant frequencies, while the sencond one can generate band-rejection. Then what’s the difference between the structures? The position? (one is on ground and the other is on the patch), or the shape? (one is T shape and the other is U shape or variant of T shape) or something else, is there any rule between the structure, the layout and the characters of the frequency band?
resonance depends on narrow band and short dipole.
strip is used as a path for excitation
strips on radiating patch changes the impedance as well as resonance frequency. Depends on the strip configuration, it exhibits either the band notch or band pass characteristics.
