A skill is an ability or a capability. I have the ability to think metacognitively, i.e., to think about how I think.

A strategy describes HOW we will think metacognitively. What approaches will be used? What tools? How will we practice metacognitive thinking? What process will be used?

I think that in teaching and learning, we can say that thinking about how we think also means thinking, as individuals, about how we learn. Each student will have a certain level of skill/ability, but each should think and plan the most effective process by which they learn.

Cultural understanding is part of language learning and I think that critical thinking is an important part of this understanding. There are close connections between critical thinking and metacognition.
