Paul: This is a complex question. Effective teaching results in students learning the lesson. However, not all teaching is effective. I have witnessed poor teaching techniques. Effective teaching is like a skill. It takes practice and a lot of effort.
Likewise, successful learning is a great experience. But it takes effort from the learner. A student must attend class, read the textbook, take good notes, ask questions, and study hard. They also must have a desire to learn. I have experienced students with very low learning skills.
When effective teaching links up with successful learning, it is a great experience for both the teacher and the student.
Teaching and learning are reciprocal concepts_ that is, the direction of imparting and/or receiving the targeted information from one party to another is different. Some believe that teaching and learning are two sides of the same coin. In point of fact, teaching is believed to be the highest level of learning.

Teaching is all about to show the direction or to give the compass through which the learners can reach the right place.
but the learning Specifically, is the acquisition of new information or the modification of existing knowledge, preferences, expertise, and other aspects of behavior.
What Biria has earlier mentioned in this discussion, appears to me to be quite interesting.
In a simplistic way, learning is acquiring a new knowledge and assimilation of the same into your system for future use. This can happen from many sources of knowledge, namely, a teacher, a book and by doing things (practical experience) etc.
The process of teaching involves learning first and then sharing the knowledge gained ( through learning) with the teachers. In my, personal opinion, for sharing your knowledge with students, that is teaching, the basic requirement is absolutely flawless learning and understanding.
I would, once again, like to echo the feeling already expressed by Biria and say that teaching is required to have the highest form of learning as its (teaching) fore-runner.
