Depending on the radiation type you can experience multiple effects. The direct exposure to hard radiation of the electronics of space platforms has spawned the development of a mature field of technology research and development called "Radiation Hardening". I good introductory overview can be found in the Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiation_hardening . There are literally thousands of papers on the topic. You just need to isolate which radiation your are mostly concerned and then see what that industry has done for it. TID (Total Ionizing Dose) and SEE (Single Event Effect) have to be taken into account for your hardening design. You can find some guide lines or design rules dedicated for this kind of constraints in IEEE Transaction on Nuclear Science Journal.
