In the USA State of California, at Moss Landing and the mouth of the Salinas River in Monterey Bay, the course of the river was changed--shifted northwards--by the great April 1906 "San Francisco Earthquake". The place was little populated at the time, mostly ranchers and farmers, so scientific evidence is a bit sketchy. However, it seems likely that soil liquefaction, river runoff were the main causes.

Is the coastal lagoon sediment budget understood? Or at least hypothesized?

Inlets can be periodically closed due to sediment dynamics and wave climate.There are several oueds feeding seasonally the system. If these waterways can carry sediments to the system (I see broad dissipative beaches from Google Earth), they might be the vectors of sediments to the system.

Earthquakes might compress sediment layers and liquefy soils. The sediment is then transported via waterways (if their carrying capacity is enough) and a delta can form (if wave and tidal flows are less powerful than the river contribution). Once the sediment joins the coastal compartment, it is then redistributed depending on the seasonal NW/SE drift direction. Eventually, filling breaches and closing inlets.

But that is not the only way an earthquake might contribute.

I noticed NOAA filed some historical records of tsunamies in the Alborean Sea.

Tsunamies and beach erosion are clearly powerful actor in mobilising unusuallly high amount of sediments to the system. Not only by sand drift, but also from the nearshore. The Alborean Sea sits on continental crust and it is not deep in the Marocco region, right? So, oceanic currents might contribute as well in the sediment stranding and inlet occlusion.

These are my thoughts.

Inlets to coastal lagoons through sandy barrier beaches exist in a delicate equilibrium between wave-driven littoral drift of beach sand (which tends to close inlets), versus tidal curents and riverine currents (which tend to scour sand from the bed of an inlet and keeps it open). Some inlets open and close seasonally if there is a pronounced rainy season-dry season climate.

If an earthquake suddenly decreases the surface area of a lagoon, or diverts a tributary river away from the lagoon, the balance could be sufficiently upset to allow the littoral drift to close the inlet.
