If you want to model the conversion of sugars coming from the hydrolysis of lignocellulosic materials at least you need to put the main sugars, glucose and xylose in the mix. Depending on the yeast and the culture conditions, the conversion of xylose will be more or less delayed. But the real industrial conditions also have relevant presence of toxics coming from lignocellulosic pretreatment, mainly furfurals and acetic acid. These also pose a significant barrier to the fermentation that need to be considered for comparing the ability of different fermenting organisms in the sugar conversion. The concentration of these inhibitors will be variable for different pretreatment processes.

Lignocellulosic biomass comprises mainly cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. While cellulose comprise mainly Glucose, hemicellulose contain pentoses (xylose, arabinose and rhamnose); hexoses (glucose, mannose and galactose) and lignin (p-coumaryl, coniferyl and sinapyl alcohol). The pre-treatment, fermentation conditions and the type of yeast used will determine the yield and culture conditions. The pure sugar of interest should be fermented as a standard and the yield can be compared with the yield of the same sugar from the biomass fermentation. Quantitative chromatography (TLC, HPLC) combined with spectrophotometry can be used for the comparison.
