Im trying to model a single lap joint setup with interlocking features as seen in the attached file.

I have experimental results for a setup with micro-metre scale features interlocking as seen in the image and hope that modelling can reinforce/ assist in explaining my results. The repeating feature size/channel size is on the order of 100/300um with a bond-line thickness of around 20um.

Would anyone have any recommendations about the best approach to try and model this type of interface? Ive been looking at using cohesive zone modelling but the main issue is that I cant model the interface as a layer of cohesive elements due to the interlocking nature of the bond-line.

I was wondering if it would be feasible to model the adhesive layer as a solid material tied to the bulk material via cohesive elements. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
