I believe, the way nowadays in India, TV is becoming an agent of change and it has a vital impact at social, political and psychological levels. It is going to change the course of political tradition in India completely. There is a peculiar way of image creation especially in serials and news channels. I require to gauge the impact.
I would suggest that Critical Discourse Analysis from the perspective of discourse as a particular way of representing part of social world would be an advantage, especially when the image creation is related to social change. Norman Fairclough (e.g.1992; 2003) could be among the references.
In addition, discursive psychology (e.g. Edwards and Potter, 1992) would also be helpful to analyze image creation. Rather tough Jurgen Habermas' (e.g. 1989) approach to communicative action and strategic action (universal pragmatics) would also be a fruitful source of guide.
Concerning the impact of image creation, I believe that works from such anthropology scholars as David Harvey (e.g. 1989; 1996) would be good sources to refer to. I recommend these approaches only because the topic, to some extent, is pertinent to the construction of style, social identity and social change. Usually, all of these suggested approaches belittle the presence of quantitative analysis unless the corpus analysis is incorporated into the study.
