I performed EDS on an unknown alloy and found the following compositions in wt% from a scan of roughly the entire surface area:
Al: 92. 94
Cu: 4.57
Mg: 1.40
Mn: 0.79
Fe: 0.2
Si: 0.1
EDS typically is only accurate to 0.1 wt%. Thus, there probably wasn't any Si. Although the presence of Fe is small overall, there were iron rich secondary phases (8.4 wt% Fe) on various locations of my sample surface. The highest Si concentration I saw was 0.3 wt%, so I am still inclined to think this is an impurity at best.
The problem is that the sources I've sifted through don't tell me the alloy designation of something with so many alloying elements. All I can tell at this point is that it is 2000 series. I do not have access to a metals handbook at this time. Does anyone know what the proper alloy designation should be for my sample? If not, please suggest other helpful sources.
Thank you!
