The use of Triclosan has been banned in hand washes in the USA because it is converted to carcinogenic chlorinated Dioxins, is an endocrine disruptor and contributes to development of superbugs. It is officially listed as NOT Generally Recognized as Safe (xGRAS) and it is NOT effective (xGRAE). But promoters of Fluoride toothpaste incorporating copolymer that ensures Triclosan adheres to oral surfaces say it is just great to put Triclosan toothpaste in your mouth and then into your whole body. Triclosan and its dioxin products will permanently pollute the land and groundwater, precluding water recycling. Free samples of Fluoride toothpaste with 3000 ppm Triclosan are given to young children without parental consent as part of the marketing campaign to dispose of more Triclosan. How do we get politicians to act on this scandal?
Announcement today that Colgate has removed Triclosan from one of its products.
