Industrial revolution (IR) 1 was steam engine, IR2 was mass production, IR3 was semi conductor and robots, IR4 is internet technologies and big data. All the experts out there, in your opinion what will IR5 going to be in?
Also each IR to next, time was almost cut by half. In your opinion when can we expect IR5?
Intellectual property (IP) theft/laws and waste of time over who developed the past 1.0-4.0
This is very interesting. Recently I have been thinking about same.
it's been under discussion for a few years already, IR5 (as you label it) is attributed to 3 things together
1) Additive manufacturing (fancy name for 3D printing)
2) Cryptocurrency; getting rid of the current banking system. Cryptocurrency is the tip of an ice-berg, which is: IoT and block-chain technology.
3) Artificial intelligence & deep learning.
i would like to add these things that have a smaller effect than the 3 enumerated above. they are, in order of importance as i see them:
nano technology, especially in the field of bio-engineering
Quantum computing
Distributed computing
renewable energy

Baraa Mohandes That's a good list. Additive manufacturing is already being used but not in large scale. Block-chain has a lot of potential in various applications such as logistics and manufacturing.
I am not sure I would agree with deep learning because its already being used widely. True AI would be a good item on IR5.
For your joys of imagination, look at the dynamical system of 4IR. Note, 4IR is driven by both technological and social forces. Cf. Preprint Transport and the Fourth Industrial Revolution
I think IR4.0 has countless opportunities to do exploration and exploitation...to tapping these opportunities and settings is not possible in a shorter span of time .it may take some time to implement IR 4.0 fully. Moreover, i think ir5 .0 will not be much different as IR 4.0 is from IR 3.0 and IR2.0.
