From literature it is known that Base to height (B/H) ratio should be between 0.6 to 0.9 is providing good accuracy.
So the question is What will be the optimum inclination angles for a capturing stereo images from a satellite having altitude of 530 km to achieve the B/H ratio of 0.7; considering swath width of image is 12 km and at least 80% overlap?
H = 530
Swath Width = 12 km
Expected overlap = 80%
Expected B/H ratio = 0.7
Aft angle = ?
Fore angle =?
Assuming push-broom technology with three linear cameras of forward, backward and nadir we have for the forward and backward camera:
Inclination angle from horizontal = tan-1(2x530/371)= tan-1(2.8571)=70.7 deg
Inclination angle from vertical = 90-70.7=19.3 deg
Having this arrangement one can resample photographs of B/H ratio 0.7 and 80% or more overlap.
19.3 deg for one camera (Forward looking camera )? then what will be the angle for Nadir looking camera?
Nadir means zero deg having a vertical axis. Nadir camera is an extra image for two reasons: One. to have regular coverage of all ground features avoiding problems rising from side-looking angles and facilitating the image correlation process. Second, to strengthen the geometry.
