Can scattering cross-section calculated for visible light can be used to calculate the scattering cross-section of x-rays? What makes the difference between these two?
The change in wavelength/frequency of light affects the mode of scattering and its cross section. Even different components of visible light have different Rayleigh scattering cross sections (blue is more scattered by O2 and N2 than red, giving rise to blue color of sky). X-rays should have different modes of scattering and different scattering cross sections than visible light when the interaction involves bound electrons.
