Intrinsic permeability of a porous medium can be defined to have a unit of length squared, if it transmits in unit time, a unit volume of fluid of unit kinematic viscosity through a cross-section of unit area measured normal to the flow direction under a unit hydraulic gradient acting under gravitational accelerating force.

If so, to what extent, the introduction of ‘pressure’ as a potential function will remain physically erroneous, by introducing ‘dynamic-viscosity’ & ‘density’ in place of ‘kinematic-viscosity’ – as against the usage of ‘potential-gradient’ in place of the product of ‘acceleration due to gravity’ & ‘hydraulic-gradient’?

What was the necessity by API in 1935 to redefine the ‘Darcy’ for adoption by the Petroleum Industry (by changing the volume from cubic-centimeters to milliliters)?

How does the linear relation between intrinsic-permeability and the kinematic-viscosity (a fluid property) should be perceived?
