‘Rapeseed oil’ (also called ‘colza oil’) is a non-drying vegetable oil with good lubricity, having long C22 fatty chains. For reference on its possible application in metallic machining, you may check: Jerry P. Byers (Ed.), "Metalworking Fluids", CRC Press, 2006: https://www.crcpress.com/product/isbn/9781420017731
Carlos is correct. Vegetable oils tend to degrade, so they are not suitable for long-term use as, for example, a replacement for spindle oil. I for one would never use unhydrotreated vegetable oil in my automobile.
Thanks you Sirs, but I speak always about oils used in machining processes (like turning, milling, drilling, and so on), to lubricate the cutting tool.
Hi Daniel, There are more than 100 types of vegetable oils available in nature which can be used as machining fluids after doing some formulations to the base oils to improve the lubricating properties. For more information refer below link.
