If you have a laser cutting machine that can cut a steel sheet up to 10 mm thick, is it possible to cut a 20 mm steel sheet in two consecutive passes? If the answer is yes or no, why?
Laser cutting head uses to be in the vicinity of cut material top surface to be correctly focused (and prevent dangerous reflection of laser beam). Cutting is also high pressure gas assisted, to remove efficiently the melted/vaporized material the gas jet must be concentrated close to heated material. Focusing the beam at the bottom of the previous cutting line seems complex to me.
A two-step cutting process would not allow you to set the beam. I assume also that the cutting delay and stability due to high thickness becomes critical, as for wj.
I will be looking for other answer from any Laserjet expert.
