Healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs) affect the well-being of the patients. To prevent, monitor, and control the HAIs in a time-saving manner, Infection Preventionists need advanced and integrated software for surveillance.
At this moment our Hospital is also in search of an ICT solution for surveillance of health care associated infections. Our laboratory information system (glims) in part can help us. Several companies developed software that connects all information systems from the hospital. A very sophisticated soltution that was presented to me is ICnet (http://www.icnetplc.com/en-gb). It is rather expensive but is can merge all data available. More important than the ICT solution is probably the way how your information is filed. Uniform formulation and filing of data is essential, not any ICT solution will work when data are not uniform.
Of course,the quality of collected data is very important.The use of standardized data collection forms,completeness and accuracy of data are all of great importance.Also the electronic versus manual data collection will make a difference.
I think bioMerieux has a product or couple of products which could help you in Infection Control (Observa & Vigiguard), i am not sure if they are still being marketed though.
