As you said, knowledge on sexual and reproductive health is not suffiecient for a healthy sexual life. Instead, sex education should emphasis on comprehensive sexuality education, where the knowledge along with training should be delivered in each developmental period. In each stage life skills can be introduced and trained focusing on the self awareness. Apart from teaching scientific facts, focusing on the psycho-social aspects also helps an individual to have a better social as well as sexual life.
Thanks for commenting. I suggest that a comprehensive sex education should include information about reproduction, anatomy & development, responsiveness, emotional intimacy, vaginal intercourse, consent, the sexual mind, masturbation, how orgasm is achieved, the sex industry, committed relationships & sexual pleasuring techniques. Just for starters ... !
Please note that my work focuses on sex education for adults. Most people have had no sex education at school or from parents. The sexual ignorance in our society starts with adults. The age at which children are given sex information depends on their social and sexual development. But by the time they are 18 years of age (in most countries) they are expected to be ready to engage in intercourse and other activities. Therefore they should have covered all aspects of sex by then. However they are unlikely to appreciate issues that arise in long-term relationships and certain other aspects of sexuality until they are much older and have acquired some personal experience. Some people never acquire this experience and are not open to learning about a topic that they view as a purely emotional experience.
