The model regulatory system is for calcium involving serum level sensors, transport from gut and excretion from kidneys and storage in bone.  Transporter proteins are known across plants and animals; but, not the gene/protein that triggers expression of the transporter proteins.  Several indicators of expression are available.  How to extract the instigator from among the many genes that may be expressed when the system is stressed (as for example by lowering or raising the cation of interest in diet or environment)?
