I collected dopamine in VTA with microdialysis(rats exercise)
and the result was extracellular dopamine increase in VTA.
But I know that VTA is just projection site to NAc.
So what the dopamine increase in VTA extracellular mean?
Is there retrograde transfer dopamine NAc to VTA?

A number of studies have demonstrated local (somatodendritic) release of dopamine from VTA/SN neurons. These date back to studies by Bjorklund and Lindvall (1975) and Geffen et al (1976).

Agree with Alexander. Somatodendritic DA release is a well known mechanisms that DA neurons use as a negative feedback mechanism.
