Dear Sir,

Molecular genetic technologies is expensive method for developing MAS in some development countries included of Indonesia. In Indonesia a PCR-RFLP method was used for early selection in livestock. Commonly, the homozygote dominant genotype was shows the best performance than heterozygote and recesive  homozygote. Thus, a conventional method was used for next selection. Heritability, genetic correlation, and repeatability were calculated to obtain the breeding value (BV). Selection of livestok can be conducted based on this value. Thanks

When the breeding program conducted with large number of animals, the molecular genetic technologies represented an expensive method compared with conventional breeding methods and this may reduce the economic benefits of the genetic gain

Of course Sir, large number of animal was conducted to highly cost of molecular technology. However, an alternative methods was maintained in some breeding station in Indonesia. For example, when we will selection breeding bull from farmers, we use many protocols according to Department of Agriculture of Indonesia.

1) Selection of bull (2  years age) based on morphometric traits i.e. withers height, body length and heart girth. Despite, selection of bull also conducted based on a qualitative traits  i.e. coat colour, horn type orientation, etc.

2) All selected bull were removed to Performance Test Station (PTS). In this station, bull were kept along 12 months for several treatment i.e. libido test, Boophilus microplus resistant test, and sperm quality test

3) The best bulls from PTS were selected again based on molecular technology. The number of animals is not too large in this steps and reduce the cost. Bulls with potential candidate gene (based on reference) were launched for frozen sperm production.

So, the genetic improvement can be conducted to bull through molecular technology. Thank you very much and I am very sorry if my information is can't applied in some breeding station in your institution.

Thank you for your response, of course by combination between records  and molecular information we can get better evaluation for the individuals and the genetic gain will be greater than conventional methods alone, but the cost will be higher, and I search for a real data got from this application

Editing in the polled gene to eliminate dehorning would be useful as would adding the "slick" gene for insect and heat tolerance in warmer climates.

Gene transfer technology through genetic/gene mapping, identification of gene loci, both advantageous and deleterious, will enable to devise breeding plans for superior chicken for economic traits and disease resistance.  This is possible through molecular genetics and underlies its importance in animal production while remembering that this field of genetics is not much explored hitherto.

Analyses of the first 6+ years of genomic selection in Holstein dairy cows in the USA showed the real impact. Genetic improvement in yield traits increased about 50% per year, but improvement in health and fertility traits increased 3- to 4-fold a year.
