Personsally I have found across many decades that meeting students regularly say weekly to discuss their development is very effective as you are aware of the path (ups and downs) the student is on. Plus you can help adjust this path after only a few wayward steps whereas if left for months the work get to a point where, to quote the wonderful Dr Seuss
