I have read that content analysis is a research method used in the social sciences. How best can I tweak this method and apply same in information systems research?
Content analysis is about systematically analyzing communications: text, pictures, videos, etc. As long as your data is a type of communication, then you should be able to use content analysis as an approach. Content analysis is used by researchers in a wide variety of different fields, and you should be able to do the same if you follow a set of established steps/practices. Here is a widely used resource that may be helpful:
Hsieh, H. F., & Shannon, S. E. (2005). Three approaches to qualitative content analysis. Qualitative health research, 15(9), 1277-1288.
Here are some examples of people using content analysis in a business context (https://www.terry.uga.edu/management/contentanalysis/research/). I don't know specifically what you're interested in, but maybe there is some overlap that could be helpful.
It would help if you could tell us more about the kind of data that you will by analyzing and the kind of results that you want to produce.
In general, content analysis can be divided between a more quantitative approach that counts how often specifically designed codes occur, and a more qualitative approach that aims to create thematic summaries of the most meaningful aspects of the data.
