The activated carbon was prepared by impregnating zinc chloride with the raw sample. I have carried out zero point charge by salt addition method and obtained a value of 7.03. Is it correct?
First of all impregnation with ZnCl2 will not give you base impregnated activated carbon as the pH of the salt is nearly 4 and may up to 1 for a 6M aqueous solution. The values of point of zero charge obtained for carbons activated with ZnCl2 varies in the range 5-6. So, to confirm your results you have to check the consistency of the obtained value by Boehm titration.
Thankyou for the reply. But I have used sodium nitrate as the salt for the determination of zero point charge and it's pH is almost neutral. After carrying out the experiments once more ZPC value obtained for the ZnCl2 activated carbon is 6.71
I am talking about ZnCl2 with which u have impregnated ur carbon, as u said in ur que as base impregnated AC. Basically your carbon is acid impregnated. And the second thing is do the experiments for estimation of zero charge in triplicates and then confirm the results by another titration method.
