Respectable brothers,
i took H NMR spectra of my aromatic sulfonated polymer in Deuterated DMSO. The integration value of sulfonated peak i obtained at 8.2 is less than 1(0.09).i have seen in many spectra that the integration value for sulfonated peak is 1( for HE).in calculating DS by H NMR this 1 divide by all integral values of other peaks.
My question is whether it is necessary to get the integral value of sulfonation peak always equal to 1 or not. if i got wrong value then what may be the reason and how to get accurate value. regards

You can set up the integration value of the sulfonation peak as 1. All others integrals will modify automatically.

Thank you Dr. i further need to know whether is it necessary to integrate the peaks other than aromatic region after setting required peak to 1,because i need only aromatic region.to calculate DS all peak integral values are added so do we need to add the peak values other than aromatic like water peak and solvent peak.if i do not include the integration values of these peak would it effect the integration values of my required peaks for DS?
Peaks of water, residual non-deutereted solvent or TMS are not integrated (as they are not part of your compound).
This will not affect your integration values of the -SO3H peak (that you set up to 1) or the aromatic peaks.
The integration value of the aromatic peaks represents the ratio between the number of aromatic hydrogens and the number of -SO3H groups.
