We are organizing a international conference on research methodology and Scientific Writing. Whether the symposiums and plenary sessions should be focused on research ethics or the research methodology?
I agree that methodology should be the focus. However, I also believe that all conferences, courses, and curriculum concerning research should devote a portion (even if very small 10 to 15 minutes) to ethics in research. It is really not safe to assume that everyone knows appropriate ethical conduct, as many medical residents, research staff, etc. simply do not receive the formal education they need in this area. Perhaps with each section presented at your conference, you could plan to end on a brief ethics overview pertaining to that particular segment. That way it would be applicable to the discussion that just took place and would be a more effective learning opportunity for your attendees.
Research Methodology I think is much more important to discuss, given anyone knows what Research Ethics should be (no palgiarism, fair results, no data massage..)
Thank you so much Dr. Alessandro Giuliani Sir. Kindly suggest me some emerging areas of research methodology which should be discussed apart from the sub-themes mentioned in the brochure attached.
Changing methods require regular re-assessment in the light of research ethics. In other words, research ethics include both broad strategies (things we all agree on, as Alessandro mentioned). Yet, with the advent of new methods, we must reconsider the ethics of the tactics (stem cell research, etc.) used to answer scientific questions.
Ethics and methodology of scientific writing sounds pretty basic - like the topic of a seminar for undergrad students. Why should such a seminar appeal to researchers (from abroad)?

Sorry : I overlooked the pdf which gives some more detail than the question and comment posted here. The range of subthemes (1-12) is quite large and some are possibly going beyond the main topic "Elimination of Methodological Errors in Research in Developing Countries." I would have expected a subdivision according to aspects of methodology, like: different methods of data acquisition, types of data and databases, methods of data analysis and interpretation, types of methodological errors and how to avoid them ... and so on.
Research Methodology includes a commentary about ethical aspects about subjects of research problems, animal experimental basic sciences or human subjects, confidential management of results, bioestadistical methods choice, a discussion of the relationship between bench and bedside ( traslational medicine if it deserves application).
Yes I also join the last comments saying that there not in fact a dichotomy Ethics/Methodoloy since the ethical aspects must be considered during all the methodology elaboration.
However, my opinion is that even for senior researchers is not superflus to discuss some ethical issues during research meetings.
Can't see the PDF mentioned above, but if you are looking for emerging themes in research methodology then I think an important area to look at in medicine related areas is the increase in the use of Big Data and Outcomes research where non-classic statistical methods, data sharing and linkage are used to gain insight from the data already available. There is a growing recognition of the need to address the limitations of the classic RCT with real world data post release. The methods in establishing this area of research also are intertwined with ethics related to privacy and confidentiality. I agree that you can't ignore ethics when addressing research methodology, but if you have titled your conference research methods then to me that should be the focus. How to write ethics submissions should be an aspect of the how to write part of your conference, but to me I would think it should be a sub theme rather than the main focus. Good luck with it!
If conference on Research Methodology and Scientific Writing I think the main focus should on Research Methodology and Scientific Writing. Research Ethics should be also included as it is important part for both Research Methodology and Scientific Writing.
I think Research as wide term includes two aspects:
1. Technical aspect, which includes Research Methodology and Scientific Writing.
2. Moral aspect, which includes Research ethics.
These two aspects are strongly related to each other. No one can conduct a study without having ethical approval from a research committee. In our hospital, our research committee will not approve your proposal unless the researchers complete the CITI training course “Group 1: Social/Behavioral Research Investigators and Key Personnel,” or, “Group 2: Biomedical Researchers,” and pass at a score of 75% or better. Thus, I do agree with Massaquio in that, there is no question to debate here. Both methods and ethics should have focus. They are both mutually inclusive.
