Papers are mushrooming with ever increasing number of authors. It is not known what scientific meaning the position of the n-th author has, if any? Often authors are added to compensate for their position (like head of a group/laboratory/institute) and/or for services rendered of a non-scientific nature. Sometimes, authors are added without their consent. The reader does not know which author has contributed what scientific content to the paper. It is very unfair if equal credit is given to all the authors of a paper with many authors.
