The present bio-fertilizer usage is only a fraction of the potential demand. It is plagued with the problem with sub-standard quality produce and short shelf life, which resulted in inconsistent crop response. This has eroded the faith of the farmers to these novel products.
Government should divert the chemical subsidy toward biofertilizers.
educate about safe storage, transportation and application methods of biofertilizers.
government should educate about residual effect of chemicals/ role of organic farming.
awareness about the side effect of pollution
In a number of ways I believe :
1) Subsidizing the production cost and thus reducing the price
2) Easing bank loan for the producers
3) By promoting the fertilizer's nutritional and Environmental benefits.
I think, the main hurdles in the popularity of biofertilisers are none other than the substandard quality produce and the short shelf life of the biofertilisers, which ultimate results in inconsistent response.There is an urgent need to provide some regulatory mechanism to ensure good quality bio-fertilizer products to satisfy the farmers. The responsibility of quality testing should be entrusted on some independent Government agencies say for example National Center of Organic Farming. It should be made mandatory to write on the p[packet, the name of microbial strain and cell count, batch no., date of packing and shelf life. Efficient strains may be preserved, improved or multiplied in cooperative basis with the support of the Government.
First of all government should regulate and make provision just like Fertiliser Control orders (FCO) and acts.Secondly the site-specific identification of beneficial organisms and their commercial sale permission in that specific area is very vital as most of the micro-organisms just fail when used in a blind way .Thirdly the quality control labs should be established at state levels so as to monitor the quality and test the life of organisms being sold.Specificity wrt crops,species,soil type is governing factor to ensure the exact beneffits of bio-fertilisers.Blind sale of product made any where and being sold at any place should be totally banned so that farmers should be able to use only useful beneffitting biofertiliser rather using clay powder mounds without any practical financial beneffits.
