Hello Everyone out there !
I want to calculate the size of hydraulic cylinder tube or barrel (basically its thickness), piston & piston rod diameter. Hydraulic cylinder will be open at one end so that piston rod can translate longitudinally to apply 200 ton load on the job. So keeping ID 250mm for hydraulic tube/barrel, can anyone with experience in the field help me in deciding the following factors:
1. Factor of safety for three elements mentioned above along with their material grade?
2. Should Brinies' equation be used for thickness calculation of hydraulic tube/barrel? Or any other formula or parameter need to be sought?
3. Should Compressive stress and buckling are two failures be considered while designing piston rod? Or any other formula or parameter need to be sought?
