During off the season/winter season, what should be our best strategies for dengue vector control to prevent from next epidemic season? I think Integrated vector management (IVM) strategies should be used round the year. We should continuously use ovitraps to check for seasonal trends, increase or decrease in vector population so that timely use of conventional control methods could be applied. Ovicides like bleach and some botanical extracts might be beneficial. But kindly share your ideas and experiences?
According to your comment, only America we have two seasons (dry and rainy season), it is important to work on prevention with great force in the dry season in America is the station with less incidence of dengue. Mainly in the destruction of hatcheries and community work. For this reason it is good to describe breeding grounds of mosquitoes at both stations, but these hatcheries also change according to the habits of each community and has to take into account for a variety of strategies. But I asked during winter season or when there is no adult mosquito population in the field... what should be our best strategies during that time...
Dear Romeo Montoya... breeding source elimination for dengue vector control is the best method during peak epidemic but removal of breeding places for dengue vector larvae (whether those breeding places are positive or negative) should also be continued during dry/winter season...
Of course activities against the vector must continue all the time.

Agree with Leslie Grammatico-Guillon and Cesar Cabezas... continuous monitoring of increase or decrease in vector population is the key for timely control interventions... Although in the past 5 years huge awareness campaigns and health education about Aedes aegypti breeding sites in Pakistan have been done but I do believe that these activities should also be continued round the year because people tend to forget all the awareness and education campaigns and they always have to be reminded of all these...

Setting up an effective and integrated Surveillance-Response Systems has been advocated in determining early indicators or alarm signal for prompt actions or emergency response. On that basis I will recommend the following for you local or counry site(s) against dengue persistent or resurgence or importation
1) setting set up an active and integrated surveillance systems with robust laboratory assessment ( molecular profile and pesticide susceptibility) data gathering, analyzing, detecting and timely reporting of early warning signals on threats or epidemics
2) Develop risk communication strategies mainly at local to national/regional dengue control level
3) Perform regular and innovative community-based awareness on dengue preventive measures and health education
4) Develop community resilience and vigilance on dengue risk factors and drivers and mitigation measures
5) quality control and assurance of both pesticide, tools and mainly continuous M&E of the effectiveness of dengue control programs at all level
