It is almost impossible to avoid crowds in labs and libraries. I remembered that the libraries are full of people, much more crowded than any restaurants or bars on a busy day, prior to the Covid 19 pandemic. So how we ensure that we can work safety with our peers during group works where social distancing is out of the question.

Herd immunity might take some time to develop. Perhaps within few years?
With the advancement of IT, more libraries are transforming into digilib, and the pandemic seems to unquestionably boost the idea and makes it an alternative solution of avoiding crowd in the library. With digilib and repository, now people may excursus round the global village libraries.

None of these answers seem to actually work in libraries. The availability of materials and services digitally for now is a short-term solution. We are however providing curbside pickup at an outside location for those wanting physical materials. Small numbers of library workers are able to work safely in the library to retrieve and process these materials. We can safely re-open restricted areas with limited seating and distancing measures in place. Some people will need to return to the space for study space and computer use - not just for the physical materials - and that will be done when there is demand (ie more students on campus) and can be done safely.

Most activities when done alone, better quality is reached. But in the modern world we have designed almost every activity as a group activity. Today library works have also become group activities. The Corona virus, somehow, I feel is a revolution against every modern step. It is taking the world back to its old and original form. Today any sort of group activity anywhere is mighty dangerous. Digitizing libraries can be a safety measure.I don't know how economically feasible that idea is right now.
Social distancing and allowing access to users of the library resources only during emergency may help.
