The process of adsorption depends on behavior of adsorbate. It is generally recommended to neutralize the pH of the adsorbent after its preparation,You should wash the activated carbon with deionized water until the pH comes to neutral.
The pH indeed has an influence on surface chemistry and on surface charge. For example, at low pH, the surface is positively charged, so the performances for adsorbing cations will be low because of the corresponding electrostatic repulsion.
after you prepare your activated Carbon you should start with removal of poolutant processes ( adsorpption). so you have to measure some paramters to reach the optimum condition , among of them is the pH of the solution and you choose acid and nutreal and alkakaline pH with fixed mount of AC, different pH to reach the fast removal rate and after you fix your pH and start to choose the suitbale dose of AC,
