I am working with graduate students in education to develop a survey about student experience. What resources would you recommend they read that would explain the process of survey development step-by-step? While there are great books that cover broad details such as those by Creswell, Leavy, Yin, etc., I am ideally looking for articles that would provide a how-to for students with an intermediate level of research methods. Thank you for any guidance you might have!

I would recommend the book Survey methods by Abramson & Abramson. It covers the topic in a comprehensive manner which are crisp and concise. A delightful reading.

Survey research is a complex topic, so I'm not sure whether you will find comprehensive articles on the subject. Here are two books that do a good job of covering surveys.
Fowler, Survey Research Methods (5th ed.), Sage.
Dillman et al., Internet, Phone, Mail, and Mixed-Mode Surveys: The Tailored Design Method (4th ed.), Wiley.

You might also consider the tool you will use to gather the data. In the UK Bristol Online Survey is reputable and widely used. You'll have to check if it is available for use outside the UK.

While there are many textbooks, I would have the student access the tutorials for the specific survey platform. For instance Qualtrics has very clear ones.
For my PhD thesis, I used the books below to guide me through the processes of designing the survey and constructing my own questionnaire. They are written in an accessible language and I still consult these books when teaching research methodology to my students.

Dillman (2014)'s fourth edition of "Internet, Phone, Mail, and Mixed-Mode Surveys" would be best for graduate students what I am also following for both my PhD research and teaching quantitative methods in undergraduate level.

Thanks so much Kenneth! The last one by de Leeuw, Hox and Dillman is of particular interest. I'll look into building our library's resources with these as in particular, we are a young university and could always use more methodology texts.
