When writing research/academic papers it is customary that one cites and references his/her work appropriately. Some papers are brief while some are a little more voluminous ranging from a few pages to several numbers of pages. There are referencing softwares available to make the work much easier than it could be. However, it remains the writer's/author's responsibility to ensure the accuracy of their work. While some authors might want to use referencing softwares, others would prefer doing their work manually. Furthermore, different fields require some specific referencing styles such as the APA or Harvard referencing style. However, some journals specify what referencing styles they support.

On one hand, advantages of using referencing softwares could be appreciated when working on several numbers of pages, however, there is no guarantee that the softwares do perfectly. On the other hand, some academics/authors would still be very much comfortable spending time doing manual referencing and reviews.

What referencing style does your academic/professional field use? Are they different from what the journals you publish in require? Do you prefer referencing softwares over manual referencing? What referencing softwares do you mostly use and why?

Thank you 😊.
